CONATEL promotes internal communication for the periodic review of the status of the business and corporate route; an in-depth process through which the business-level goals are defined. As part of this action, quarterly meetings are held, where management discusses company goals, and the approaches that shall be adopted towards this end, in practical and strategic terms, as well as the status of the administration. The organizational structure is designed to provide consistent services, where each stage is under the responsibility of a specific management.
Five management departments operate under the General Management:
Consulting & Technology, Implementation & Support, Commercial Management, Administration & Finance, and Human Resources. The first three are directly related to the business lines and focused on the successive stages of the production process with coordinated work for the management of comprehensive projects.
Each solution we work on is especially designed by the Consulting and Technology Management through the integration of the components that best adapt to client needs. This department consists of a team of engineers residing in Uruguay and certified by our partners, suppliers and organizations such as PMI (Project Management Institute). It works side by side with the Commercial Management in the drawing-up of commercial proposals and, as advised, it accompanies each stage of cross-projects.
The Implementation & Support Management is responsible for implementing and commissioning solutions, as well as for providing technical, maintenance and repair services. This sector has more than 60 collaborators and the necessary equipment available to technicians and specialists to simulate environments, carry out tests and researches on products, duplicate problems and perform diagnoses.
Within this management is the Implementation Department, with more than 10 permanent in-house technicians and the support of the companies with which CONATEL works to achieve higher flexibility and coverage. This department is also in charge of the installation and commissioning of all the equipment sold by CONATEL.
The Commercial Management is in charge of contacting our clients in order to achieve long-lasting relations. Permanent training and certifications are delivered to account executives through this management, according to the demands of the represented brands. The area is organized into 5 segments depending on the type of client (State, Corporate, Trade & Services, Industry and Healthcare), which allows us to provide specialized services for each segment’s particular needs.
Our Customer Service department is made-up by agents, supervisors and specialized technicians who receive, record and follow-up more than 80 service applications a day, more than 76% of which are taken care of in less than four hours. CONATEL’s technical service is offered under different modalities and has 24/7 capacity to respond to client demands.

CONATEL is located in downtown Montevideo, at Ejido 1690, corner with La Paz, at an 11.214-square meter building.
The facilities were built in the early 50’s to supply the growing demand for telephony services and the increase in the sales of electrical materials. Today, our office building reflects our development.
CONATEL was founded in 1936 by a group of partners led by Guillermo Strauch. When there were just over 30 thousand telephones in the country’s capital, the team spotted a growing demand and became the representatives of Siemens Germany, leasing and selling private telephone installations and incorporating most of the German company’s products.
Our venture in the electricity sector
The outbreak of World War II and the shortage of manufactured products in Europe encouraged CONATEL to incorporate a second business area for the manufacture of electrical materials.
This is how we started diversifying our services. The initiative developed in such a way that it led to the creation of the Electrical Materials Division. In 2009, the company Vivion was organized, specialized in the manufacture and marketing of electrical materials. Apart from operating in the national market, Vivion exports its products to several countries in the region.
Pioneers in new solutions
In 1971, CONATEL became a partner to Siemens Electromédica Uruguaya S.A. and we started distributing and implementing medical equipment solutions. Thus, we were pioneers in the installation of resonators, tomography and angiography scanners, lithotripsy equipment and teleradiology systems, integrating different healthcare technologies. Ten years later, the traditional business model had become a structure that adapted to client needs, enriched with new experiences in a new key area, providing solutions to critical processes.
This diversification into several activity areas was intensified when CONATEL expanded its alliance with Siemens and included Industrial Automation products.
During the 90’s, the foundations for the development of global information technologies were laid. CONATEL knew how to actively participate in the change, becoming the first exclusive Hewlett Packard distributor and acquiring the status of Authorized Support Service Center for HP, a status it holds to date.
Another milestone in the company’s track-record was having brought mobile telephony technology to Uruguay, by being part of the group of investors who brought Bell South International to the country, under the brand name Movicom.
Pioneers in new solutions
When the company was 75 years old an internal change process began, more client-focused. In October 2011, the traditional business units were changed into areas adapted to market needs.
Our expertise has gone beyond frontiers. Today, CONATEL provides professional consulting services to local and regional companies in connection with the integration of their technologies, through a team of engineers residing in the country and certified by our business partners.
